Dr.Hemalatha Vidyashankar pursued her MBBS from Stanley Medical College, Chennai and her Post graduation from MGM Hospital, Navi Mumbai. She completed Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship Cataract Microsurgery: Basic and Advanced at the Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. She further pursued her long term Fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. She has an experience of more than a decade in treating children with eye problems
She specialises in Paediatric Cataract surgery with IOL implantation and all types of Squint surgeries. She has performed a vast number of eye surgeries in children. Her special interests are in Amblyopia/lazy Eye Therapy and Binocular vision therapy and treatment of Congenital Naso-lacrimal Duct Obstruction. She has keen interest in Genetic Eye diseases affecting the children’s eyes.
She is also proficient in Adult Micro-phaco Surgery in routine and complex cataract surgery with premium intra-ocular lenses and has trained several Post graduate students in the art of cataract surgery.
She is an invited expert speaker for various national ophthalmology conferences and Postgraduate training Programmes. She has conducted several CMEs and Hospital based training Programmes.
